Glyphys Shelf - WIP

I have two main inspirations behind this bookshelf. First, I was inspired by Cheryl Riley's Glyphs. The disk-like shape of the bookshelf is influenced by the circular motifs of Riley's hieroglyphics which is her investigation of societal structures in ancient, contemporary and Afro-futuristic worlds.

Renowned author Alice Walker is my second inspiration. In her book “Gathering Blossoms Under Fire,” Walker shares her diary entries and her experiences as a woman, a writer, an African American, a wife, and a daughter. These fragments of her whole being play into the shelves’ transparency and how she captures and shares her life events.

Ostra Chair

evoke's feelings of isolation and alienation.  As a Black woman designer, I often feel isolated and alone. This chair represents my personal experiences throughout my educational journey, from primary school to graduate school. The bright, hard exterior symbolizes the 'tough skin' and resilience minority designers require to persevere and succeed, especially those from underrepresented communities.

I held a conversation with Shayla Marshall and Suni Mullen. They have been important and driving factors to why I have created my most recent work. the work that is on display. Shayla and Suni are contemporary artists I collaborated with. Shayla and I designed Vignette and Suni is the reason the Ostra Chair has become a reality.

Who Dat??? (Board Game)

Who Dat???" is a game that encourages us to look beyond race and celebrate individual accomplishments. Originally, it was created to showcase the achievements of lesser-known Black individuals, but it soon became a passion project to highlight the successes of my fellow Black creatives.

Race is a significant cultural identifier, but it is important to remember that individuals possess many other attributes.

Who Dat??? is for those who are curious, it is a game to learn about the next generation of Black creatives and figures making history.

Tina Mega Phone & This Moment Compass

Inspired by Salonge's third studio album. This album embodies black identity to the fullest even though "Black American identity" is so ambiguous and can't be defined.
